A Heart Touching Poem from an Abandoned Pet
This one has been doing rounds on all the social networking sites and I found it really heart touching. If you like it, share it. A really important message is conveyed through this poem and even if this helps and saves one dog from being abandoned it would mean a lot.
“Woof!” I said as you started the car,
“Hooray!” I said, it’s my first time afar.
The scents we were passing were all new to me,
For it was my first introduction to this mystery.
As we got out of the car I embraced you with joy,
After all you remembered to bring my favourite toy!
You threw it once or twice, of which I retrieved,
But on the third it seemed you were ready to leave.
You threw it long and hard and I chased it like lightning,
But when I turned to bring it back I saw a sight quite frightening.

I gripped my toy hard as I tried to comprehend
What it was I did wrong to make our relationship end.
You walked back to your car as I sat there still loyal.
Why am I subservient and you so royal?
Your engine started, and you peeled out into the night,
You didn’t even care about my overwhelming fright.
As I sat in my pose determined you would come back,
The sun faded behind me while the surroundings turned black.
Day after day I stayed in that park,
Lying… waiting… too feeble to bark.
As I lay there dying thinking of you master,
I asked myself how I got into this horrifying disaster.
With my last breath of life, I whispered your name
Then I collapsed in a heap overrun by pain.
Why didn’t you love me master? Why didn’t you care?
Had I no significance, was I just a clump of hair?
I stayed there master and I waited for you
I guess taking care of me was just too much to do.
I’m gone now master, no more You-and-I
But what I can’t figure out is why you didn’t even say goodbye…
Pet Care Tips on Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is close and love is in the air — but so is possible danger for pets.
Many pet owners don’t realize the hazards of traditional Valentine’s Day gifts for their pet and best friends so you need to know the things you should be avoiding this holiday:
- Chocolate – As delicious as it is to humans, chocolate can be toxic to dogs because it contains theobromine and caffeine, stimulants which can be hazardous — and even fatal — to pets. According to the ASPCA, chocolate toxicity is one of the most common poisonings seen by vets.
- Jewelry – Sparkling gems are appealing to our four legged friends, too. Fido or Kitty’s instincts may tempt them to taste the jewelry, causing stomach ailments and possible breathing difficulties. Don your new jewelry immediately, or place it safely away.
- Flowers – Some flowers and plants are dangerous if ingested by pets, including buttercups, calla lilies and tulips. The packaged plant food that accompanies some floral arrangements can lead to stomach problems as well.
- Other dangers – A romantic candlelit dinner can turn into a fiery disaster by a pounce on the table from a curious cat. And scented cards and love letters spell danger if ingested.
Puppy love for puppy
Pet experts recommend keeping pets content and out of trouble by presenting them with presents of their own.
More than three quarters of all pet owners in America give gifts to their pets on special occasions — and Valentine’s Day should be no exception. From heart-shaped plush toys, to Valentine’s Day bones and pink and white “puppy Popsicles”, there are a variety of toys and treats from which to choose.
Your local Best Friends Pet Care center has plenty of Valentine’s Day treats for your furry valentine.
Or a day at the spa
Treating your pet to a comforting day at the salon is another gift idea. “February is actually a great time for a grooming make-over,” said Val Penstone, national director of grooming for Best Friends. During the winter months, grooming is often neglected and, with the windows closed and the heaters on, low humidity can make your pet’s skin and coat dry and scaly. A thorough grooming will leave your pet clean and comfortable from head to toe – and much nicer to be near.
Top off your pet’s new “do” with a pretty sweetheart or festive red denim-and-daisy collar – both with matching leads – and you’ll both be ready for spring.
